Fazakas Gallery graciously received positive press and attention from:

Canadian Art Magazine

Ethos Arts and Culture

The Fazakas Gallery booth featured five artists whose works explore postcolonial themes of identity politics, dissemination of knowledge, hybridity, and reclamation. The pieces include carved sculptural works and two-dimensional works on wood, canvas, and paper.

Works by master carver and renowned Kwakwaka’wakw artist Beau Dick demonstrated how the Northwest Coast tradition of carving has evolved through artists’ proficiency of time-honored techniques.

In conjunction with the carvings, the booth also featured conceptual paintings, sculptures, screen prints, and photographs. Artists included: Jeneen Frei Njootli, Carlos Colín, Mark Preston, and Carollyne Yardley. These artists are informed by their individual cultural backgrounds and traditions, through which they offer unique responses to our contemporary, postcolonial landscape.

Carlos Colín received the Alliance for Arts and Culture Mayor’s Award in the fall of 2016, and Fazakas Gallery was honoured to have received the award on his behalf.
